Motor insurance claims 'stay high in summer'
Drivers were today reminded that they need to stay focused on the road during the summer months if they are to avoid motor insurance claims. It is often thought that conditions for driving are better during the warm weather than they are in the winter, but insurer NFU Mutual has revealed that 40 per cent of its car insurance claims are generated by incidents that occur between May and September.Laura Wood, a spokeswoman for NFU Mutual, said the figures proved that driving in the summer was every bit as risky as at other times of the year, particularly for motorists venturing out of town centres."Rural roads in particular can pose a threat as people may be tempted to put their foot down when they see a clear country lane ahead," said Ms Wood. She added: "A recent government campaign stated that you are three times more likely to die in a car crash on a rural road so due care must be taken."Recent research conducted by Direct Line found that 88 per cent of instructors felt that the current driving test does not do enough to prepare new motorists for the challenge of rural roads.Ten per cent of motorists could save 39.7 per cent or more on their car insurance, a study from last year has shown.© Adfero Ltd Other Recent Motor Insurance ArticlesSlow down to save on motor insurance Education the key for police Suffolk drivers avoiding motor insurance claims .
Wreck raises insurance questions
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Last week, Anne Foust sat down to enjoy a relaxing lunch with her family at Ruby Tuesday in Cape Girardeau. It didn't take long for her Wednesday to get wild! "I was in shock," said Foust, "Someone said, 'There's been an accident in the parking lot,' so we all raced outside and sure enough, my car was hit." In a bizarre accident, police say Ricky Dawson had a medical condition which caused him to lose control of his car. He was heading west on William Street when he clipped another car, swerved across two lanes of oncoming traffic, jumped over an embankment, and hit a vehicle. That chain reaction created caused a domino effect, with one car sliding into the next. Anne Foust's car got caught in the middle.

Personal Injury Protection should not be allowed to die
Florida's roadways are about to become more dangerous, its courtrooms more crowded and its residents left less protected -- because Big Insurance wants to drop a less-profitable coverage option for the promise of higher rates down the road.Since the 1970s, Florida drivers have been required to purchase Personal Injury Protection -- PIP-- also known as no-fault insurance. The inexpensive policy protects drivers and family members injured in car accidents, regardless of fault, with up to $10,000 in medical, loss-of-pay and even funeral benefits. For the 40 percent of Floridians without health insurance, it is the only means of paying for medical costs related to a car accident.Without it, these drivers would be left to sue to recover costs if the accident was not their fault, or to default on their hospital and doctor bills, being sent to collection and ultimately forcing taxpayers to pick up the tab.On Oct.
